Tip #1
Your player level doesn't mean much. Unlocking Perks and Wild Cards is the only benefit. Don't worry about being Level 5 and playing against Level 55 players, you can beat them. All you need to do is learn the maps, and unlock your gun attachments as soon as possible.

Tip #2
Your gun levels matter, very much. As your gun levels up, you unlock the attachments that make it strong. Most Level 55 players are running around with the same guns you are, just with higher level attachments. The only way to level your gun, is to use it. Don't pickup dropped guns during matches when you have a gun you are trying to level. Using your gun, although less effective, is the fastest way to unlock its attachments.

Here are two guns that I use often, and are both unlocked at Level 4. I will also list the attachments I use on them. As you use the gun, you will unlock attachments. Try them all. See which ones you like. The PDW is one of the best guns in the game, and used by many Level 55 players. The LSW is more of a favorite to me, not many others use it, but I do often.

Tip #4
Perks are not extremely important, but it is good to know which ones are helpful. Try only using different combinations of these perks.
Lightweight - Not needed for SMGs, good with ARs, and great with LMGs
*Flak Jacket - I use this on every one of my builds
Hardline - Activate scorestreaks faster
Scavenger - Good if you use lethals/tacticals, but not needed for ammo only
Cold Blooded - Hide from targeting systems, like Target Finder attachment
Toughness - Flinch less when being hit, best usd with long range weapons
*Dexterity - I use this on every one of my builds
